Skylarkian since 2010

I’m Jaz and I’m the founder of Skylark Sports, and a local mum. I’m a former gymnast. I started at age 7 and I was lucky to find my passion early. I loved learning new ways to move and gymnastics helped me build my skills and my confidence. I started coaching when I was 14. When I was 18 I discovered the sport of acrobatic gymnastics and went on to compete internationally.

I have an academic background and a keen interest in child development. I studied exercise science and health promotion at uni, and did half a PhD researching factors that influence children’s physical activity. What I learnt made a lot of sense, but what I felt was that the gap between what we know through research and what society provides for children was growing.

I started Skylark Sports to bridge that gap. I want to ensure that every child in our local community has the opportunity to develop their confidence through movement.

I believe that the goal of parenting is to raise happy, functional adults, and I believe that we need a village around us to help along the way. I believe in what we do at Skylark because I know that gymnastics is a fantastic tool to help kids grow in confidence and develop a growth mindset, and I know that what kids learn with us will serve them well as they grow up.

Juggling a family along with a growing business can be challenging, but I believe that what we do makes a difference to children’s lives. My ultimate goal is to grow Skylark Sports so we can support more parents as they do the difficult work of raising the next generation.

I want to thank you for trusting us and believing in what we do. If you see me on your next trip to Skylark and we haven’t met yet, please come and say hello. I’d love to meet you.

We have more amazing people in our team
