SEPTEMBER PROGRAM NEWS - 2023

INFO FOR EVERYONE

Classes continue during the school holidays
Skylark classes continue through the school holidays, we’re open for classes for 48 weeks of the year, excluding public holidays.
If you've got make-up tokens sitting on your account, the holidays are a great time to use them! Bookings can be made 3 days in advance through the customer portal, or you can email us if you need help selecting the right class.
If you’re going to miss a class, in the holidays or at any time, it’s super helpful if you register the absence online to let us know – this way we can allow someone to borrow your place in the class as a make-up.

Your participation agreement outlines our make-up policy and all membership information.

Upcoming public holidays
Skylark Sports is closed on public holidays so there will be no classes on Friday 29th September.

Wear your footy colours these school holidays
Celebrate the end of the football season by coming to class dressed in your favourite team's colours. Don’t follow Aussie Rules? That’s okay. Wear any team colours, from any sport or any country.

What to expect in your class this month...
Current Theme: SILLY SOCKS
Skill Focus: CARTWHEELS
Brain & Body: VISUAL TRACKING
Visual tracking, or Eye tracking is the ability to keep the eyes on target when looking from one object to another or when following a moving object, like following a thrown ball. Strong visual tracking skills is also essential for reading.
Developing visual eye strength will help children be more successful in school and sport. Various activities are included this fortnight to develop visual tracking skills; catching balls, movements with purposeful hand and feet placement, balancing, knocking down cones and movement games.

Next Theme: HELPING AT HOME (Starts 11th Sep)
Skill Focus: TAKE OFF’S
Brain & Body: GAME SENSE
Games Sense is an approach to sport and physical exercise that focuses on the actual game, rather than the importance of the technical details. This encourages participants to use their own decision-making skills, and develop their tactical awareness and communication skills.
We are practicing our game sense regularly in KinderGym, we incorporate music and fun into our games, focusing on the joy of movement.
Information sourced from ACHPER Victoria. READ MORE HERE: https://tinyurl.com/3bbkt9t4

We have details of each theme displayed on the wall for you to learn more about each theme and what movements and milestones we’re working to develop in class. The theme info can also be found in the iClass Pro app under ‘News and Announcements’.

NINJA NEWS

2023 Star Tracking Round #2 is here.

Skylark Sports has an established Ninja curriculum that we use to develop our lesson plans. We use our Star Tracking process to track each individual child’s progress in a way that isn’t confronting, or that takes away from the goal of developing confidence through movement.

We know that some children shy away from performance or testing, and some children are motivated by checking off skills and seeing their progress. We are doing the Star Tracking as part of their ordinary class to ensure that the experience isn’t overwhelming or negative for those that don’t like to be “tested”.

Tracking weeks will seem like every other week on the surface, but the team are working hard to record achievements, help kids work towards their next goal, and share this valuable data with you. You will receive an email at the end of each tracking period (fortnightly blocks) for an update on your child's progress.

Block one: Monday 4th to Sunday 17th September
Block two: Monday 2nd to Sunday 15th October
Block three: Monday 30th October to Sunday 12th November

The Ninja Curriculum includes skills and movements in "Journeys” rather than levels as we know that each child's progress isn't liner, so the journeys are structured to allow children to develop their skills across all journeys at a pace that's right for them. These Journeys are;

  • Falling and Landing
  • Combat
  • Vaulting
  • Walls
  • Climbing
  • Hand Rotation
  • Air Rotation

Each skill in the curriculum has been filmed and uploaded into the Customer Portal and once a ninja can perform a skill confidently and controlled, we will check it off as ‘achieved’. Parents will be able to view the skills achieved in the customer portal (along with an example video) so you can celebrate your child’s progress with them.
Any questions about the Ninja Program, the Journeys, or how to access the Customer Portal, speak to staff member.

We look forward to celebrating everyone's success!
