Is My Child Ready for Gymnastics?
They don’t need any gymnastics experience to start.
Some children are confident from their first class. Others prefer to watch, stay close to their grown-up or take a little longer to join in. That’s completely fine. Junior Gym gives children opportunities to explore movement, build confidence and become more comfortable participating in a group environment.

Movement can help children develop important physical and social foundations, including:

Trying something new and discovering, “I can do it!”
Coordination
Learning how different parts of their body work together.
Independence
Becoming more comfortable trying activities for themselves.
Social Skills
Practising turn-taking, cooperation and participating alongside other children.
Body Awareness
Learning how their body moves through different spaces and activities.
Parents Often Ask...
What age can children start preschool gymnastics?
Skylark Sports offers Junior Gym classes from 1+, with age-based groups for children aged 1+, 2+, 3+ and 4+.
Does my preschooler need gymnastics experience?
No. Junior Gym is designed to help young children explore gymnastics and movement at an age-appropriate level, so previous experience isn’t required.
What if my child is shy or doesn't join in straight away?
That’s okay. Young children respond differently to new environments, and our coaches give them time and encouragement to participate at their own pace.
What do children learn in preschool gymnastics?
Activities can help children develop balance, coordination, body awareness, confidence, independence and social skills while introducing age-appropriate gymnastics movements.
