Extension Gymnastics for AGES 6+ (by invitation or application)
A fun, skill based, semi-competitive program children 6 years and over
Where confidence supports performance
GymTeam is the next step for gymnasts wanting more opportunity, structure and skill development while maintaining a healthy balance with school, family and other activities.
Designed as a semi-competitive pathway, GymTeam combines gymnastics skill progression with routines, performances and team experiences.
With the guidance of qualified coaches we support gymnasts to present their skills at internal and external competition events, an experience like no other where kids develop confidence and resilience while they celebrate themselves and their team-mates.
Children who enjoy learning new skills, working toward goals and being part of a team, GymTeam offers an exciting new challenge without the intensity of high-level competitive training.

Have Questions About Extension Gymnastics Classes at Skylark Sports?
What is Extension Gymnastics?
GymTeam is our semi-competitive gymnastics program for children aged 6 and over – the next step for gymnasts who want more opportunity, structure and skill development while keeping a healthy balance with school, family and other activities. It’s one 80-minute session per week, combining gymnastics skill progressions with routines, performances and team experiences.
How does my child get into GymTeam?
By coach invitation, or by application and assessment. If your child is already at Skylark, their coach may recommend them. If you’d like them considered, contact our Customer Care Team and we’ll arrange an assessment. We do this to make sure every child is placed in the environment best suited to their age and stage.
Does my child have to compete in GymTeam?
Competitions and events are a key part of GymTeam and all athletes are strongly encouraged to take part. There’s one internal event at the end of each term – a Skill and Activity Challenge day or in-house competition – plus end-of-year team performances, and optional external competitions through the Recreational Gymnastics Australia Futures League. While attendance at every event isn’t compulsory, GymTeam is designed for children who are excited to perform and challenge themselves. The internal calendar is shared at the start of each year so families can plan ahead.
How is GymTeam different from recreational Gymnastics and Competitive Acrobatics?
Recreational Gymnastics is age-based and non-competitive, working through our 10-level curriculum. GymTeam adds routine work, competition preparation, dedicated strength and flexibility training and termly events – the weekly commitment is similar at one session, but the expectation of regular attendance is higher because the team works towards shared goals. Competitive Acrobatics is a full competitive pathway: two to five sessions a week, partnership and group work, and compulsory competition. GymTeam suits a child who wants challenge and performance without reorganising the family week.
